Sample Heading 4

A mirage is a type of optical illusion. Riding in a car on a hot day you might see a puddle of water in the middle of the hot paved road and it seems to move ahead or disappear when you get closer. That is a mirage. If a object such as a boat or a mountain seems to float in mid air that is also a mirage. A mirage can occur in the artic, at sea, or on a hot paved road. This happens because of the bending or reflection of light.

Many stories have been told about mirages. One common and very intresting one is the one about travelers. There once were some travelers stranded on a desert island. One thinks he sees a beautiful oasis with a pool of water. So he runs ahead and jumps into what he thinks is the pool but the traveler ends up laying on the sand in the hot sun miles from any water.

Mirages can also make things look bigger and clearer than they really are. Mirages are actually the bending of light distortion going through the atmosphere. Sometimes mirages can make it look like things are there that really aren't there.
