ASI Game 1:
Well the 1st game of the new season promised so much and certainly delivered!...The Avalanche players arrived onto the rink resplendent in their new Purple jerseys to a wail of laughter from The Rockies camp with names such as Ribina's and Grapeapes being bandied around. The Rockies were bolstered by the return of Jason (short stick) now to be know as (Long Stick) Geyer...you guessed it, he bought a new stick!. The Avalanche were depleted with the absence of Cip (The Defector) Wingrove poor excuse leaving your gear at home! (same excuse the Canadian mens ice hockey team had before the start of the winter olympics!), Matt (destructo) Hornsby and Mary Ann (The Flash) Harvey.
The game opened at a surprisingly furious pace with early strikes from Rob (twinkle toes) Shanahan and Jason (Long Stick) Geyer for The Rockies late in the period Rob (The Terminator) Bestecki pulled one back for The Avalanche...quarter time Rockies 2 - Avalanche 1. The second period was tough and physical. Leanne (Lightening) Osborne was burning up the court for The Avalanche but it was John (Kamikaze) Shadiac who struck first with an excellent sliding / lifted shot only to be followed soon after with a sensational reply from Leanne Osborne for The Avalanche. Halftime Rockies 3 - Avalanche 2.
The third period was a tight no holds barred affair with both teams struggling to find the back of the net unfortunately John (Kamikaze) Shadiac did but it happened to be in his own goal!..after which he was duely benched by his team mates...oh the shame of it!...Third period ended Rockies 3 - Avalanche 3.
The final period opened with an early goal from twinkle toes Shanahan but again The Avalanche answered with another from Rob (The Terminator) Bestecki having the game of his life!...it was end to end stuff and as the clock rolled down to one minute a back hand cross for kamikaze Shadiac found Rado (The Enforcer) Ristic in the slot..Rado then proceeded to have more swings than Tarzan in a feature movie!..eventually connecting to score the game winner...final score Rockies 5 - Avalanche 4.
An excellent start to season 2..frightening to think what the remainder of the season holds after that slick display.
