ASI Game 1:

Well the 1st game of the new season promised so much and certainly delivered!...The Avalanche players arrived onto the rink resplendent in their new Purple jerseys to a wail of laughter from The Rockies camp with names such as Ribina's and Grapeapes being bandied around.  The Rockies were bolstered by the return of Jason (short stick) now to be know as (Long Stick) Geyer...you guessed it, he bought a new stick!.  The Avalanche were depleted with the absence of Cip (The Defector) Wingrove poor excuse leaving your gear at home! (same excuse the Canadian mens ice hockey team had before the start of the winter olympics!), Matt (destructo) Hornsby and Mary Ann (The Flash) Harvey.
The game opened at a surprisingly furious pace with early strikes from Rob (twinkle toes) Shanahan and Jason (Long Stick) Geyer for The Rockies late in the period Rob (The Terminator) Bestecki pulled one back for The Avalanche...quarter time Rockies 2 - Avalanche 1.  The second period was tough and physical.  Leanne (Lightening) Osborne was burning up the court for The Avalanche but it was John (Kamikaze) Shadiac who struck first with an excellent sliding / lifted shot only to be followed soon after with a sensational reply from Leanne Osborne for The Avalanche. Halftime Rockies 3 - Avalanche 2.
The third period was a tight no holds barred affair with both teams struggling to find the back of the net unfortunately John (Kamikaze) Shadiac did but it happened to be in his own goal!..after which he was duely benched by his team mates...oh the shame of it!...Third period ended Rockies 3 - Avalanche 3.
The final period opened with an early goal from twinkle toes Shanahan but again The Avalanche answered with another from Rob (The Terminator) Bestecki having the game of his life!...it was end to end stuff and as the clock rolled down to one minute a back hand cross for kamikaze Shadiac found Rado (The Enforcer) Ristic in the slot..Rado then proceeded to have more swings than Tarzan in a feature movie!..eventually connecting to score the game winner...final score Rockies 5 - Avalanche 4.
An excellent start to season 2..frightening to think what the remainder of the season holds after that slick display.
ASI Game 2:

Game 2 was going to be a test of stamina with several key players missing from The Avalanche including Matt Hornsby, Mary Ann Harvey, Rob Bestecki & Cip Wingrove.  The Rockies duely responded by loaning Tim (boots and all) Kernick for the game (purple doesnt suit you Tim!.  The game once again opened at a furious pace with both teams having early opportunities but outstanding performances from Jason (Long Stick) Geyer & Hass (Dancing) Palka in goal had the 1st period finish at 0 - 0.
The 2nd period opened much the same as the 1st with less shots on goal but far more intensity, mid way through the period a slick backhand cross from John (Kamikaze) Shadiac found Rob (Twinkle Toes) Shanahan in the slot and in the blink of an eye The Rockies were up 1 goal to nil...Halftime score Rockies 1 - Avalanche 0.
The 3rd period was a test of both teams fitness with the intensity starting to take its toll excellent defensive efforts from Tony (The Smiling Assassin) Gunter, Lorranine (The Claw) Seibert and Rado (the Enforcer) Ristic where just some of the highlights but late in the 3rd a sensational outlet pass from Renata (The Enforcerette) Ristic found John (kamikaze) Shadiac on a fast break and after leaving Grant (The Hitman) Lindner in his wake proceeded to put the Rockies up by 2. Third period ended at Rockies 2 - Avalanche 0.  The 4th period was an eventful one as The Avalanche struggled to pull back The Rockies advantage. A rocket slapshot from Kamikaze Shadiac early in the last not only sealed The Avalanche's fate but also may have ended his season (only time and Sportsmed will tell)...the highlight was a wonderful team goal late in the period from The Avalanche..an excellent assist from LeeAnne (Lightening) Osborne found Steve (Ned Kelly) Maxwell who put away a superb one timer to finally make it onto the scoring sheets! and try as he may he couldnt add to his tally late in the game.  Final Score Rockies 3 - Avalanche 1.
For the 3rd week in succession the avalanche have had more "shots on" than the rockies.... just goes to show...quality beats quantity every time!!!!
See you all for game 3 next week...
