| Dear friends and fellow Indians, This is a modest effort to reach out to all those people who think like me that American media doesn't do justice to the great country of ours. Just think, here we are, a country of one billion where Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis and Jews all stay in relative peace with atmost freedom to practice their religion or even not to have one. The America media wants the world to believe that India is a Hindu majority country where most of all, Muslims stay in contant threat of being wiped out. It is our duty to tell the world that India has the second largest Muslim population in the world and they form the core of our nationhood. The media wants the world to believe that India has forcefully occupied Kashmir and because it is a Muslim majority state, it should either be free or with Pakistan - if it is up to them, they would probably take Punjab, Nagaland etc also away from India. It is our duty to make the world realize that India is not about religion, it is all about diversity. Can anyone define a typical Indian, no we have people in the east that look more like Chineses and people in the north which are fairer than the whites. INDIA IS ABOUT DIVERSITY FOLKS and lets drive it. Majority of the people I know have gone to Christian missionary schools, prayed to Christ in the mornings and evenings and still remained Hindus or Muslims etc. that's the beauty of our country- lets tell them. The media calls terrorists freedom fighters and India, an occupying force and that's the way a common westerner knows it - lets counter it. Why should we do it? For the simple reason that I feel bad and I am sure you too do. With information being power these days, information about India would become critical in the days to come. Lets make sure people have the right information. Public opinion has been and will be the biggest tool in determining the shape of the world to come - lets make sure we have the tool. If India is to become a global power, public opinion in its favor is critical. Without a favorable public perception India is viewed as " A third-world country dreaming to become a super-power by the virtue of having a nuclear bomb" - Lets change it. It shall be my endevour to reach out to as many people as possible (not only Indians)and in due course of time form a cohesive and diversified group of people who are willing to counter any negative propaganda that is undertaken by the media. I wish for us to do the following things:- 1. Surf the web and find out news published about India in the major national dalies and/or magazines. 2. To examine the content and notify this web-site at fpri_2000@yahoo.com of any news-item and/or advertisement that denigrates India or is lop-sided. 3. We will put those news-item and/or advertisement on this web and solicit comments from people about the authencity and the 'real picture' and how can we counter such a propaganda. 4. Last but the most important aim would be to write letters to the editors and articles to these publications, and at a later time to publish advertisements in major newspapers and magazines that makes the public more aware about the 'real picture'. My first aim is to reach to as many people as possible and your help would be greatly appreciated. Please tell all your friends and relatives about this site. Please follow the links below to read the news-items and don't forget to write back you opinion. I am not a computer expert and this site is rather sloppy, I apologize for that.
