Hello World!
I created this site to share our experiences with daily life: work, family, spiritual, illness, fun; and to provide resources to those in need. I want to share with you information about an illness we as a family must deal with daily : Pulmonary Hypertension. I will eventually add other sites as I research and locate them for public interest and use. I will also be sharing experiences with other diseases affecting family: mother:( Dermatomyositis ), sister and eldest niece: ( Tuberous Sclerosis ) ( Raynaud's Syndrome ); also a condition that affects myself and many others: Scotopic Sensitivity Syndrome ( a form of dyslexia ). I will provide websites for all these conditions. I also wish to provide resources to help others achieve financial freedom and sites to have fun!
Here is my story:
I began having dizziness, shortness of breath, chest pain and palpitations with a rapid heart beat in December 1998. I consulted my physician and we began tests in search of answers. The symptoms became more frequent, as did the emergency room visits, doctor office visits and tests; results were normal for the most part.
January 2002 a heart catheterization was performed, I was then diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. Breathing is now very difficult when walking; fatigue is frequent and unbearable, as are the side effects of the many medications I must take. I see many specialists and am now on portable oxygen most days in order to get about in my small community. I have been emotionally, physically, and psychologically devastated by this disease as there is no known cure and I am unable to continue my career as a Registered Nurse. I am 36 years old.
Half of pulmonary hypertension patients live five years from diagnosis. That may not seem like a long time but its a lot longer than it used to be and some patients are living much longer.
The Pulmonary Hypertension Association is changing the landscape for those of us who must confront this illness on a daily basis.
They help build awareness among doctors so that there can be earlier diagnosis, allowing people with pulmonary hypertension to live longer. They advocate for patients on insurance and government issues. They have a patient-to-patient hotline (theres nothing like getting a diagnosis and then being able to talk to a patient who has lived with this illness for more than ten years). They have an expanding network (over 90 now) of support groups so that people dont have to live with this terrible illness alone. And, they support research leading us toward better treatments and, we hope, ultimately a cure.
I began a support group in the East Texas Area for those affected by Pulmonary Hypertension and the group is slowly growing.
I encourage everyone to donate to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and please make a note to the PHA to please Honor "PH Support Group- Tyler Chapter"
