| The Democrats must be desperate. They've elected San Franciscan Nancy Pelosi as their minority leader in the U.S. House of Representatives. Ms. Pelosi is of the notion her party has not run liberal enough in recent years - campaigning on the principle of shifting the Democrat party leftward. The Democrats rejected her opponent, Harold Ford, a more moderate black Tennessean – yet another example of Democrats failing to support African-Americans in spite of all the lip service given over the years. The Democrats know the American public, although compassionate and determinedly justice-seeking, is not left-leaning. So, with yet more lip service, they will search for new ways to camouflage their party's liberal orientation with the new “centrist” buzzword applied whenever possible. And, of course, they will continue their fear-mongering with charges of racism and claims of impending doom to vulnerable groups by “evil” Republicans. Ms. Pelosi is no centrist. She is one of 58 U.S. Representatives, including Vermont Socialist Bernie Sanders and Democrats Barney Frank, Jesse Jackson, Jr., and lame-duck Cynthia McKinney, who belong to the Progressive Caucus. The caucus subscribes to what they call the ``Fairness Agenda'' assembled by the Institute for Policy Studies, a socialist think tank in Washington that opposes the war in Iraq, supports benefits and rights for illegal immigrants and homosexual domestic partnerships, and advocates for progressive redistribution of wealth through tax increases. Their “Fairness Agenda” demands congressional action to: • Cut military spending and ``corporate giveaways'' while promoting progressive taxation and redirecting revenues to social programs. • Create a fair and sustainable one-world global economy. • Support demilitarization by stopping NATO expansion and banning covert operations. Progressive is a subtle codeword meaning productive workers should pay more and more in taxes. Increased taxation is then used to create “investments” in expanding social programs to create more people dependent upon government benefits who will then vote for the people willing to provide the benefits as entitlements. This is nothing but give-it-all-away politics. The Democrats used it through most of the twentieth century to expand and centralize their power base. Many misguided people do not realize there is a limit to give-it-all-away politics which we are getting much too close to now. Almost all taxes are paid for by the top half of all income-earners and the bottom half pays less than five percent. Once the number of actual taxpayers goes below fifty percent and entitled benefit receivers go above fifty percent outright socialistic government will take over in America. And that, my friend, is the goal of Democrats. That is their only way to gain and maintain permanent control of our government. If we allow it to happen, it will certainly bankrupt and destroy our once magnificient Nation. Isn’t it finally time to completely reject the big-government, high-taxing, over-regulating, entitlement-establishing, unaccountable, irresponsible, totalitarian-coddling, peace-at-any price, blame-America-first, ACLU card-carrying, anything goes philosophy of leftwing Democrats like Barney Frank, Hillary Clinton, and this new leader from San Francisco - Nancy Pelosi? The tide may have shifted in the latest election, but the modern liberalism which dominated American politics in the last half of the twentieth century will not wither and die quickly. It’s going to take well-organized efforts at all levels to continue our fight to hold onto and increase the advances produced by this last election. The dictionary defines conservative as favoring traditional views and values. It means to keep and maintain and be a steward of those things which are beneficial to our well-being. The Republican Party has always been the party of conservative principles which have changed little over the years and which are definitely needed in these trying times. Common-sense conservativism calls for: • Education - Our number 1 priority must be to improve the education and safety of our children. • Defense - Seeking to improve U.S. military preparedness in this time of terrorism abroad and at home. • Economy - At the heart of Republican economic policy is the belief that the best policy for achieving economic growth is to allow hardworking Americans to keep more of their money. It's a solution proven to work everytime. • Taxes - Providing tax relief and economic independence through tax reform and spending reduction. • Energy - The United States must become less dependent on foreign sources of oil and promote greater efficiencies in consumption. • Environment - Protecting our land for future generations using common sense environmental policies. These are the goals we must achieve in government at all levels to remain a strong and prosperous Nation. Join your local Republican Party organization. Help advance our noble causes. You have read this far because you are concerned about our future. Like me, you must want our State and Nation to be a much better and safer place to live and work in - now for us and for those who will follow us. We can make this a better place by working together for conservative goals - smaller yet more efficient and accountable government that serves and protects the people from which its powers come.
