GAURDIAN ANGEL
By Laura Douglass
Ginger a 24 year old girl with dark brown hair and dazzling brown eyes grew up on a 40 acre horse farm in Colorado ,she took care of 9 horses with the help of Jessica, and Cindy her best friends. One day Ginger was walking by the woods near her farm when she heard a faint neighing sound; she stopped and listened carefully. Ginger followed the noise at least 50 feet into the forest; she found a tiny black and white foal with long beautiful hair and the softest white main. The foal was no more than 1 month old and sick; she carefully picked her up and hurriedly brought her back to the farm as she laid her on the fresh hay of the empty stall Cindy walked by and saw the stall that was holding the tiny foal. Ginger told her to bring a bottle of warm milk and some bran mash. They kept her warm and safe until she was strong enough to stand. They decided to name her Horse Feathers because of her soft and light appearance. Every day Ginger would take Horse Feathers on a walk to build up her strength; they would have to be very careful when they went in the woods so as not to step into the dangerous marshes in that area. Horse Feathers was on her way back to health. Soon Horse Feathers was strong enough to run and she was able to handle a rider on her back when she was only 3 years old. Often Ginger would go on long walks with Horse Feathers late at night and fall asleep on her back; Cindy or Jessica would come out to the stall in the mourning they would find Horse Feathers back in her stable with Ginger sleeping peacefully on her back.
Almost 5 years after Ginger found her loving, loyal new horse her and Horses Feathers went for a long, quiet walk in the woods. Forgetting to test the ground for softness they stepped onto into a clearing and found themselves sinking into a thick, sticky, marsh .As Ginger struggled to escape to pull out Horses Feathers she sunk deeper into the marsh while Horses Feathers whinnied and rolled her eyes in fear. They fought for what seemed like hours. Then suddenly a misty cream color foal emerged from the dark forest .As Ginger looked into the soft trusting eyes of the foal, who was now almost close enough to touch ,she felt calm and fearless ,even Horse Feathers seemed calm .As she reached out her hand to touch the foals nose she felt herself lifting of the ground. Completely forgetting about the foal she looked over to Horses Feathers and found they were at least 3 feet of the ground when they slowly came back down, the ground that was recently soggy and wet was hard and dry. She ran over and hugged Horse Feathers, crying. Ginger suddenly remembered the mystical foal that saved there lives, but when she looked over where the foal once stood she saw nothing.
2 years latter Ginger found out that a cream foal had died from starvation in the woods because she was trapped in that very marsh. Ginger knew that she had to go back and thank the foal. As she stepped into the clearing she fell to the ground touching the cool, dry earth remembering the terribly frightening night they fell in to the marsh that was now and forever dry and hard; she saw a flash of cream out of the corner of her eye. Ginger slowly looked up and standing right in front of her was the misty foal which had saved her and Horse Feathers lives 2 years ago, looking at her with the same soft calming eyes as when they first met, she didnt dare get up ,she reached out to touch her and the foal disappeared. Now knowing the magic and power of the ghost of the foal she said in a soft, weak voice Thank you, Guardian Angel.
