What are MP3s?
Mp3s are a sound file format. This format is about 10% the size of an actual audio track, so you could fit about 11 hours of mp3 music of CD quality on one CD. This means if you have a internet connection you could download entire album escaping the cost. This is where they become illegal by evading the copy write laws. That is why music companies are trying all to stop it.
Where can I get some (That's to see how good they are)?
There are many places to go, one place is www.altavista.com and do a search for 'mp3'. But you would get a huge list and that's not much help. My advise would to try a MP3 search engine here are some. www.audiofind.com This is good for direct download and its the easiest and most reliable (Very very few dead links) I have found, BUT has a limited choices. Next is www.2look4.com this has a wider choice than audio find but requires an ftp client and is HARDER to get what you want quickly. Finally there is www.mp3.com this is a legal site, it has a good range of music tastes, and with direct downloads.
How can I encode them for myself?
There are many freeware program out on the web to encode MP3s, but usually this evolves two steps. 1. Tacking the track of the CD as a WAV file. 2. Encoding it to MP3. This is ok if you have a lot of time to waist. Alternatively you can download a program called Musicmatch Jukebox 3.1 which is one of the quickest I have seen, I highly recommend it. Also there is a program called AudioCatalyst 2.0 which does the same thing but I have to be quick on some computers not all thought. BUT for these are program you need to be register. You could do a search for these program on AltaVista with the word warez or serial, then download it or type the registration number.
How many MP3 do you have?
No Comment. Over 1000
Where can I get more information on MP3s?
A good place to look is www.mp3.com this is a legal site that aims to promote the unknown artist in the world. You could also look on AltaVista there are many University sites explaining in detail how MP3s work if you are that interested. I will put more information up her when I have the time.
