Sorry 4 takin so long b4 I placed mi little mermaid story. I had sort of a difficulty of findin it but in the end here it is. Hpe u like it!! Enjoy!! ;) FAIRYTALE CREATING COMPETITION LITTLE MERMAID NAME: ANGELIKA KOH HUI XUAN SCHOOL: ST. ANTHONY’S CANOSSIAN SECONDARY SCHOOL CLASS: 1/7 DATE: 9TH MARCH 2005 “Ariel! You better get up now! Or else!” a man’s voice cried out rather urgently. Ariel rubbed her sleepy eyes awake and looked at her alarm clock “It’s only eight o’ clock ...” She swam out of her room and asked yawning “Dad... Why did you wake me up so early for? There’s no school today... It’s not as if mum’s coming back. It’s only when mom’s coming then you would wake me up so early.” The man looked at her, his figure was rather good but you could see that he was old because he had a white long beard at his jaw. “Your principle just called me.” He said angrily. She suddenly was wide awake upon hearing those words “What? Why?” acting rather innocent. “Don’t act as if you didn’t know. Darling, I sent you to one of the best schools in this country and this is what you do to me. The principle said that you were flirting with boys at school. Why? I already told you to focus on your studies and not on boys. You can work on them when you’re older.” He said worried that her studies were starting to fall drastically. “Dad, I’m already sixteen. I was not flirting with boys. It’s just that the principle finds me a thorn in his flesh that’s all. Really! I’m not lying! I promise!” she said trying her best to act cute, her father always gets tricked by that. He continued even angrier than ever because she was denying it, “Don’t lie, Ariel! Your best friend saw you with one of the guys called Mart or something like that! Oh yes! I also heard that you dyed your hair! Child, you’re getting from bad to worse!” and he tried to take a look at her hair. Ariel talked back “It’s Martin! Why did she have to be such a goody-two shoes? And, I did not dye my hair, this is its original colour!” as she looked at her orange-red coloured hair carefully, ‘Good! He has no evidence that I dye my hair! There’s not even a strand of a different colour!’ she thought rather relieved. Her father looked away and said “You’re lucky this time. Next time, I don’t want to hear any complains from any teacher!” and he swam off. She began to swim to the front door when she heard her father “Where are you going? Young lady?” “Out. Can I?” she asked not facing her father. “No! Of course not! You’ve done such a grave mistake and you still intend to go out? You are grounded, for a month!” “Jumping seahorses! A month! No, you can’t, father! Please! I admit I’m in the wrong! Please don’t!” Ariel begged. “No! Now go to your room and stay in there till I tell you to come out!” and he pushed Ariel into the room and locked her in. Ariel sat down on her bed, and looked at the sculpture of her best friend, Flounder. “Flounder, what should I do? Oh, I wish my father was not such a discipline person!” “It’s for your own good, Ariel. Please, if you don’t want to get grounded, then behave better in school.” Ariel jumped from her bed, dumbfounded and said “My sculpture? Talking? I must be imaginating things!” Flounder came out from behind the sculpture and giggled, “You should have looked at the expression on your face just now! It was so funny!” Ariel said a little angrily “Flounder! You almost scared the mermaid out of me just now!” Flounder said sitting on the bed, “You know it wasn’t entirely his fault. If you concentrated more on your studies, and less on boys. It’s definite that you would not be grounded all the time,” “Now even you think like that? Oh my, you growing more and more like my father.” As she shook her head feeling rather disappointed because of it. She suddenly took notice of a small window at the left hand corner of her room she smiled. Flounder said looking at her “What plans have you now in your mind, my young friend?” “I was thinking of squeezing through that window tonight. I think I be able to go through. I guess I’m skinny enough.” As she looked at herself. “Has your brain gone to the fishes? You totally crazy! However small you are, you still won’t be able to squeeze through that crab-sized window!” “It’s not that tiny! I’m sure I’m slim enough!” she said fully confident of herself. She waited for night to arrive. After a dinner, with her father she was locked up in her room again. She waited till she heard no sound coming from the living room. “Okay! Let’s go! Flounder!” she said facing her friend smiling happily. “Are... Are... you sure of this?” he stammered with an obvious fear in his voice. “Come on! Or else we’ll never be able to get out of here!” she said grabbing his fin feeling so eager to swim to the surface of the water. She remembered her father telling her when she was young. “Never go to the surface of the water, Ariel, there are bad people on the surface of the water.” “As if! If there are bad people up there, I’m the person father is afraid of. Mom!” and she dragged Flounder to the surface of the water with her. Above the surface, she saw something she had never seen before, a boat. “What in the sea is that?” she said looking rather amazed. “That’s a boat! Don’t you ever know anything? I read it in "The Idiot’s Guidebook to Things above the water" “How would I know? Hey, there’s a person in the boat!” she said as she peeped into the boat. Before she could continue, she heard a loud crackling of thunder. She looked into the sky and saw thousands of lightning bolts striking down. “Thunderstorm!” the man who was in his twenties shouted. “He’s not bad-looking!” she exclaimed, knowing that he was in danger, she called out to him. He looked down and stared at her, shocked. “What? Never seen such a beautiful mermaid before? Come on; stop looking at me with your jaw wide open! You’re about to get killed, you know!” Unfortunately, the boat overturned and he fell into the watery depths of the sea. She looked around and saw the man’s head bobbing from above the water, he was out, cold. She swam toward him and carried him towards the shore. She tried to listen to his heartbeat but, nothing “Come on, such a good- looking guy like you doesn’t deserve to die! Come on!” she yelled desperately pumping his chest. The man coughed out a stream of water and woke up. He stood up but could see no signs off the person who saved his life. Ariel was already far from the shore, looking at him till she could not see him anymore. She swam back underwater and suddenly recalled “Flounder!” She saw him on the surface of the water searching for her anxiously. She grabbed his fin and pulled him back into the water. She could feel Flounder struggling to pull his hand away from her. She stopped and looked at him. He looked back feeling a sense of relieve, he swam back with her. They squeezed back into her room through the window again. She told her best friend about her amazing adventure. “He maybe would make a good boyfriend, but we are two worlds apart, even our physical features are not the same...” “Why must you be so boy crazy, Ariel?” Flounder asked trying to figure out on his own. “It’s in my nature! I guess...” she answered. The next day, she was let out for breakfast and her father asked her “Ariel, what’s wrong with you today? You seem so deep in thought.” She replied smiling “Oh nothing!” He looked back at her suspiciously “Is it about boys again?” She replied angrily “Of course not!” “I hope so.” He replied continuing his breakfast. She looked to the surface of the water and mumbled “Hope we meet again...” and she continued her breakfast. THE END
