| If you meet someone shy... |

| This page is to help people who meet someone shy. Here is a list of DO's and DON'Ts. DON'T: 1) Be patronising 2) Make a big thing out of their shyness - it doesn't help them 3) Ask them why they're shy - it isn't as if they choose to be. Asking someone why they're shy is the worst thing you can possibly do. It puts them on the spot with a question they can't answer no matter how hard they try. What would you say if you were in their position? 4) Make nasty comments - suggest they might be mute etc. 5) Completely ignore them 6) Act as if they are stupid DO: 1) Be considerate and think about what they're feeling 2) Leave them alone a little and they'll talk when they feel ready 3) Talk to them a little to make them feel more at ease but don't tell them to speak 4) Be friendly - difficult for some I know 5) Empathise AND JUST SO YOU DON'T FORGET I'LL SAY THIS AGAIN. NEVER EVER ASK SOMEONE WHY THEY ARE SHY!!! THAT HAS GOT TO BE THE DUMBEST QUESTION EVER - I KNOW BECAUSE I WAS ASKED. I DON'T KNOW WHAT HE EXPECTED ME TO SAY, AND I SURE WASN'T GOING TO ANSWER, "BECAUSE I'M LUCKY"!!!!! |
