This site was made for all the people in Garden Spot Middle School who believe that our teachers are taking away our rights by banning Slambooks from school. According to Amendment I in the constitution:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Therefore we feel that we need to take some action! Taking away our Slambooks is taking away our freedom of speech, speech that they don't even have to hear! Slambooks aren't against the law, and are most certainly not harming any person at school. Our teachers have no right to detain us from communicating with each other in our own way. Slambooks are a piece of property of which they should not be able to read without permission. Our teachers have no right to invade our personal property, just as we students have no right to invade theirs. You don't see us getting into their mail and/or email, do you?
We feel, and we know we're not alone, that the teachers at our school have NO right to touch and read our personal things, aloud or to themselves. According to Amendment IV in the constitution:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Now I'm doing a petition to get the slambooks back, because not all slambooks have harassment involved! Our teachers aren't teaching us about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights for nothing, right? Let's use our knowledge to control the right that rightfully belongs to everybody! So who's with me?
