Welcome to Volunteers for the elderly. I am starting this site for the wonderful residents at a wonderful nursing home. I am the Director of Activities at the facility. I work with one assistant in trying to improve the quality of life for more than 50 people. As you can well imagine, there are not enough hours in the day to see that everyone is engaged in some activity they enjoy.
In face of this task, I am looking for people who want to help others. Be it reading a book, leading an exercise group or a game of BINGO, to assisting with flowers in the spring there is something for everyone in the world of volunteers. What is your hobby? Can you show people what you do? Can you teach it? Can you talk about it? Have you traveled? These are all ways that you can share with the elderly, and they are waiting for you right at this minute.
Only have an hour to spare a week? That is great, any time you can give to someone else is a wealth to someone who sits in bed waiting for someone to do something with them. To just sit and talk about the days events, to bring your pet in for a visit, or to help write a letter. These things don't take a great deal of time, they just take initative of someone like you.
