Survivor Series started out with a bang from Detroit's Joe Louis Arena as the Godfather's team o' pimps made its way to the ring. The Godfather, D'Lo and the Headbangers were all dressed as big, bad pimp daddies! Their opponents, the Dudely Boyz and the Acolytes, had serious looks in their eyes as the match began. The Dudleys and the 'Bangers pulled off some early double-team tactics. The first superstar eliminated was Thrasher, as he fell victim to a Clothesline from Hell at the hands of Bradshaw. Then, his partner Mosh went down to the Dudley Death Drop, leaving the Godfather and D'Lo in a 4-on-2 situation. That did not last long, as Bradshaw was disqualified after laying out Buh Buh Ray and D'Lo with a chair. Faarooq and D-Von then started battling each other, despite being on the same team, causing both to be counted out. Buh Buh tried his best to keep himself afloat against two men, but D'Lo showed a huge amount of resiliency. Dudley finally fell to a 'Ho Train and a 'Lo Down as the Godfather and Brown emerged victorious.
The second match of the night featured Shawn Stasiak against the debuting Kurt Angle. The Olympian started out with a flurry of Greco-Roman takedowns. After Stasiak mounted a comeback, Angle threw the youngster around a bit more. Shawn, however, used his style of sports-entertainment offense to gain an advantage. The crowd was unhappy with Kurt's tactics, causing the gold medalist to grab a house mic and tell the audience that "you do not boo an Olympic medalist." Angle then proved his words by pinning his opponent after a fallaway slam-type suplex.
Following the match, footage from D-Generation X's attack on Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock during Sunday Night HEAT was shown.
In a Survivor Series Elimination Match, the team of Val Venis, Mark Henry, Gangrel and Steve Blackman took on the squad of the British Bulldog and the Mean Street Posse. Pete Gas was the first participant to hit the bricks as he fell victim to a Guillotine kick from Blackman. Soon after, Rodney was eliminated after an Impaler from Gangrel. After a series of devastating power moves, "Sexual Chocolate" annihilated Joey Abs and sent him to the showers. The British Bulldog made his presence felt immediately upon hitting the ring, pinning Gangrel after a superplex from the top rope. Bulldog then made quick work of Steve Blackman, finishing the Lethal Weapon off with a fisherman's suplex. Val and Henry tried to double-team the European Champion, but Davey Boy clotheslined both his opponents. However, Bulldog couldn't meet the challenge of two other superstars, and the team of Val and Mark Henry emerged victorious after a Money Shot.
The Women's Match was up next as Mae Young, the Fabulous Moolah, Tori and Debra took on the team of Luna, Jacqueline, Ivory and Terri. Moolah and Mae attacked Ivory before the bell, but Luna interjected. The action was fast and furious, with all eight women getting involved. Moolah secured the victory for her team with a big splash on Ivory. After the pin, Debra and Terri went at it, with Terri losing her blouse in the process.
In a heated grudge match, Kane and X-Pac went one-on-one. Kane was full of fire from the start, executed several high-risk maneuvers before X-Pac finally caught up with him. A spinning heel kick sent Kane to the mat, but when the degenerate went for a Bronco Buster, Kane caught his former friend and set him up for a backbreaker. After a chokeslam, it looked like Kane had the match won until the Road Dogg pulled Kane's leg from the outside. The Big Red Machine then kicked out of the X-Factor, and when he had X-Pac up for a Tombstone, DX interfered. Though Kane won the match via disqualification, he suffered an emotional defeat when X-Pac leveled Tori.
Next up was a Survivor Series Elimination Match with the team of Prince Albert, the Big Boss Man, Mideon and Big Vis taking on the Big Show, who rejected taking on any partners. Mideon went down to a Showstopper just seconds into the bout, as did Prince Albert. Show slammed Viscera, and then chokeslammed the 500-pounder before pinning him. This left Show against the Boss Man. The Cobb County native wanted none of the Big Show, as he was eliminated via countout after running to the showers.
Triple H then lured Austin into the parking area, where the Rattlesnake was hit by a speeding vehicle. The McMahon family and several EMT's arrived on the scene to attend to Stone Cold. DX showed up, as well, with Triple H claiming no fault for Austin's condition.
In a match for the Intercontinental Title, Chris Jericho took on the defending champ, Chyna. These two fierce rivals bailed to the outside quickly, where Y2J sidestepped a diving Chyna before choking her with a cable. Back in the ring, Jericho continued his assault until Chyna countered, nailing her opponent with a huracarana. Jericho quickly recovered, executing a plancha onto the champ. Y2J dumped Chyna onto the announcers' table and then threw her into the exposed security wall. Jericho drilled Chyna with a missile dropkick back in the ring, but Chyna kicked out. Jericho executed a bulldog and a splash, but Chyna once again would not go down for the count. When Miss Kitty got in Y2J's way, he kissed her and then pummeled her. Jericho powerbombed Chyna shortly after, and she once again kicked out. The champion regained the advantage and nailed her opponent with a springboard elbow and a DDT. When Chyna accidentally poked the referee in the eye, Y2J clocked her with the title belt. However, Chyna recovered, but still couldn't put her opponent away. He then locked Chyna in the Walls of Jericho, but she reached the ropes. After a long and grueling bout, Chyna secured the pinfall following a top-rope Pedigree.
In the dressing room, DX once again confronted the McMahons, and Shane told Triple H that he didn't know what he was going to do about the Championship Match later in the evening.
In the final Survivor Series Elimination Match of the evening, the team of the Hollys and Too Cool went up against the Hardys and Edge and Christian. Both teams exchanged offense early, though the Hollys and Too Cool looked a bit out of sorts. The Hollys gained the advantage after a few minutes, double-teaming Christian. Grand Master Sexay continued the attack. However, once Edge entered the match, he speared three of his opponents, and then accidentally speared Matt Hardy. Edge and Matt Hardy were eliminated seconds apart by Hardcore Holly and Scotty Too Hotty, respectively. Too Cool delivered a tandem powerbomb to Jeff Hardy, but the former tag champ wouldn't stay down. After a disagreement over who should kick Christian, the Hollys began fighting each other. Meanwhile, Jeff Hardy eliminated Scotty after an outstanding top-rope flip. Jeff was eliminated himself following a top-rope legdrop from the Grand Master, who consequently was sent to the locker room by Christian. Crash Holly soon followed. Christian appeared to have Hardcore Holly on the run, but Holly managed to roll up his opponent for the victory.
After the match, Shane McMahon announced that there indeed would be a Triple Threat Match later, just without Stone Cold.
In a Tag Title Match, the New Age Outlaws were set to battle Al Snow and Mankind. Mr. Ass and Mankind exchanged blows early on until the pair spilled to the outside. Mankind and Al Snow went to work on the Road Dogg with a steel chair. The D-O-Double-G fought his way back, though, as the two teams went back and forth for a short while. While the referee's back was turned, Mr, Ass hit the Fameass-er on Mankind, but Al Snow came to his partner's rescue with a Snow Plow. Both Outlaws got a taste of Mr. Socko and Mr. Ass got nailed with Head, but Billy kicked out. With Al on the outside, the Outlaws connected on a spike piledriver, pinning Mankind and keeping the Tag Team Titles.
The evening's final contest was the Triple Threat Championship Match. The Rock and Triple H made their ways down to the ring and awaited a confirmation from Shane as to who their opponent would be. Both The Rock and Hunter were surprised when their opponent was announced
it was the Big Show! Show set up Triple H for a Showstopper early, but The Rock put and end to that with a shot to Show's back. Hunter and the People's Champ had to team up several times to counteract Show's size and power. Rock gained control with a Russian Leg Sweep on Show. The "Great One" dropped a People's Elbow, but the champ disrupted the count. The action went down the aisle to the entranceway, as all three competitors hammered at each other. Hunter fell through a table after a shot from The Rock. After Triple H gained some control, the Big Show got involved once again, but received a fire extinguisher to the head from The Rock for his efforts. The 500-pounder got back to his feet, though, and ran Triple H into the steel stairs and the announcers' table.
Rock and Hunter once again double-teamed Show, delivering a tandem suplex through the Spanish announce table! The Rock and Triple H continued battling into the crowd. When the two returned to the ring, The Rock inadvertently hit the referee with a clothesline. The Rock then countered a Pedigree and planted the champ with a Rock Bottom. With the ref down, Shane ran out to make the count. After a second Rock Bottom, it looked like The Rock had the win, but Show came to and broke the count. The gargantuan superstar took control and fought The Rock outside the ring. In the ring, Triple H gave Shane a Pedigree, but Show returned to lay out both his opponents. DX then hit the ring en masse, but Vince stomped out to the ring area soon after, nailing Triple H with the belt. Big Show quickly made the cover and Vince counted a 1-2-3 win for the new Federation Champion
